ORATORICAL CONTEST
The purpose of The American Legion’s National High School Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.
2014 Contest
The post oratorical contest was held on Saturday, January 18. The Paul family, who is becoming legendary in our area for their prowess in speech and debate, was represented again this year by Luke Paul. He spoke on the importance and relevance of our Constitution in today’s world. His presentation was thoroughly researched and artfully delivered. As the first Place winner he was presented with a pin, a certificate, and $100. It was noted that he plans to use this money to enter other contests and tournaments in speech and debate.
